Un Déjeuner Extraordinaire: La Colombe d’Or
“Love is the greatest refreshment in life.” – Picasso

The art display here may cause a double take — are those really Mirós, Bonnards, Picassos, Légers, and Braques hanging on the rustic walls? Yes, it’s true, they were indeed given in payment by the artists in hungrier days. This idyllic old auberge was the heart and soul of St-Paul’s artistic revival, and the cream of 20th-century France lounged together under its fig trees–Picasso and Chagall, Maeterlinck and Kipling, Marcel Pagnol (Manon des Sources) and Jacques Prévert (Les Enfants du Paradis). Yives Montand and Simone Signoret met and married here, and current film stars make appearances from time to time…Give in to the green-shaded loveliness of the terrace, the creamy manners of the waitstaff,
and the sense of contemporary history.
